Director's Welcome

Welcome to wexarts.org, the online portal to the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University. As the only fully multidisciplinary contemporary arts institution located at a major research university, we aim to be a true center—where artists, thought leaders, and change makers come together with audiences eager to explore the art and ideas of our time. And we encourage you to join the conversation in a spirit of open and civil dialogue around our common questions, concerns, and aspirations—of both local and global import.

Wexarts.org is the place to find the most up-to-date information about the center’s near-constant stream of exhibitions, performances, film/video screenings, panel discussions, talks, tours, and workshops. Just as we aim to be a unique cultural resource for Ohio State and the Columbus community, we also advance the arts at large, through original Wex commissions and presentations that travel on to venues nationally and internationally.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to sign up for Wex e-mails and “curate” your inbox according to your personal interests. Of course, we encourage you to leap out of your comfort zone to explore new forms of creative expression; one never knows where that spark of inspiration, connectivity, or fresh thinking might be found!

Join us for the opening of our winter exhibitions, featuring a newly commissioned project by Wex artist-in-residence Sarah Oppenheimer as well as the acclaimed survey of Carmen Herrera—an unsung pioneer of geometric abstract painting—making its only stop outside of New York right here. Don’t miss our third-annual Cinema Revival festival, highlighting the art and science of film restoration with revitalized classics from the world over and fascinating talks by such experts as Margaret Bodde, executive director of Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation. Our performing arts program kicks into gear with inventive international theater from Forced Entertainment and Vivarium Studio; is followed by a heartfelt, hilarious evening of storytelling and dance featuring This American Life’s Ira Glass; and continues on with an outstanding lineup of jazz from Joshua Redman, Donny McCaslin (who dazzled on David Bowie’s Blackstar), and Vijay Iyer, among other standouts.

So get ready to experience a dynamic slate of programs in 2017, and brace yourself for the daring and the delirious, the subtle and the sublime, the revered and the revelatory. In fact, why not become a Wex member—allowing you free gallery admission year-round, generous discounts on films and performances, savings at the Wexner Center Store and Heirloom Café, and so much more. Jump in, join now, and enjoy!

Warm wishes,

Sherri Geldin
