Add it up

Jan 20, 2010

A friend of mine who isn't a member of the Wexner Center (there are a few), after a visit to the Gateway Film Center, was a little unclear on "the deal" that Wexner Center members receive at the GFC. Let's clear that up. Once again: Wexner Center members pay $5 to Wexner Center-selected films, all day, every day. On top of that, our members pay $5 to get into all the other films screening at the GFC, except on Friday and Saturdays. Think about that. Any movie at the GFC (except the five or so non-Wex films screening on Fridays or Saturdays), for $5. Considering that a Wexner Center membership starts at $50/year, let's do the math:

Non-member ticket price = $7.50
- Wexner Center member ticket price = $5.00

savings = $2.50 per ticket

Considering that Wexner Center members can buy up to two tickets on a membership, go ahead and double that.

savings = $5.00 per visit

$5.00 savings per visit times (on average)
x 10 movies a year =

$50.00 in savings = cost of a year's membership.

So right there, if you only see 10 movies a year, your membership pays for itself. That doesn't even begin to get into the other benefits you receive as a Wexner Center member, like $5 member tickets to all our films at the Wex, first crack at music, dance and theater tickets during member presales, member discounts on tickets, in our store, and café, and invites to member-only events. There is more, but you get the idea. You can find out more about becoming a member here. Happy film-going.
