Buzz builds about Bradford

Apr 22, 2010

Artist-of-the-moment Mark Bradford and the current survey exhibition of his work (on view here May 8–August 15) are garnering media coverage coast to coast. The Los Angeles Times recently blogged about and devoted ink to this exhibition in the Sunday, April 18 edition. “Mark Bradford is on a roll,” wrote Jori Finkel of the L.A. Times, citing our exhibition—which will tour to four museums across the country after it premieres here—as well as his 2009 MacArthur “genius” award “for his ‘richly textured,' collage-style paintings, which draw from posters, billboards and other urban visuals.” Finkel points out the centerpiece of the exhibition, a “new, audio-visual room-sized installation” called Pinocchio Is On Fire. The New York Times gave the exhibition a nod in the Travel issue of its Sunday, March 14 issue (“Hello, Columbus”); Artforum is touting the show and catalogue in the May summer preview issue; and Vogue plugged the exhibition in the current (May) issue on newsstands as one of “20+ reasons to embrace Americana,” citing the Bradford show at the Wex as first among a handful of exhibitions across the country this summer offering “a culture fix” and “celebrating American art.” Artnet.com just cited it as one of the top 20 shows of the month across the U.S., and the art:21 blog highlighted it recently as well. On a roll—and on fire—indeed.
