Film Comment and Our Film/Video Programming

May 22, 2007

Pick up the May/June issue of Film Comment which includes a wealth of in-depth coverage of a number of upcoming films at the Wex. Guy Maddin's "Jolly Corner" column is devoted to the pre-code gem Blood Money, one of the films he'll introduce here on May 24 and 25 along with Dreyer's Day of Wrath. Guy also contributes a very Maddinesque tribute to underground film legend Kenneth Anger.

There are reviews of I Don't Want to Sleep Alone (screening June 22 and 23), Lars von Trier's The Boss of It All (screening August 24 and 25), and Zoo (screening September 13 and 14).

Nathan Lee contributes a profile of past Wexner guest Apichatpong Weerasethakul, whose film Syndromes and a Century we screen June 1 and 2. Day Night Day Night (screening July 20 and 21) director Julia Loktev is interviewed and Amy Taubin has a great piece on the hit French film Lady Chatterley which we screen August 17 and 18.

If your hunger for news about independent and world cinema is never satisfied, do yourself a favor and subscribe to pubs like Film Comment, Sight and Sound, Filmmaker, and Cinemascope. They all have websites if you would like a test drive, but you still need to buy the print version to get all of the content. — Dave Filipi, Curator, Film/Video
