Jennifer Reeder wins big at Encounters

Sep 24, 2015

Congratulations to filmmaker, past Wex Artist Residency Award recipient, and Film/Video Studio program regular Jennifer Reeder! Jennifer, no doubt a familiar face to Wex film fans, just received the Brief Grand Prix at the Encounters Festival, the UK's leading short film and animation festival. She picked up the award for Blood Below the Skin, her compelling new film following three teenage girls and the collective power of female adolescence. The film was completed in our Film/Video Studio and it's always a kick to see artists and work that had a home within our walls receive such acknowledgement (Blood was also in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival where it was nominated for a Teddy Award and won Best of the Fest at the Chicago Underground Film Festival).

For her acceptance speech at Encounters, Jennifer was joined by a very special guest.

You can see Blood Below the Skin when Jennifer returns to the Wex for the film's Ohio premiere on October 31. It screens as part of our Picture Lock: 25 Years of Film/Video Residencies event, a four-day series celebrating the rich history and work created via our Film/Video Studio Program and Jennifer will not only be here for the film, but will take part in a conversation with Mike Olenick, a filmmaker and one of our in-house editors We're looking forward to sharing it with you. Get tickets and the full Picture Lock schedule here.
