Making the Bag Part 1: Gulls + Grids

Nov 21, 2007

Making the Bag

The Wexner Center is going green by collaborating with local Columbus courier bag maker, Seagull Bags. One of a kind Wexner Center messenger bags will be crafted by the deft hands of the Seagull Bags crew from recycled Wexner Center banners. The previously used banners will now be repurposed and recycled into three sizes of durable, functional, and water proof courier bag goodness! These completely unique bags will be available soon in our Store for the holidays. We are doing a very limited edition run, but if we are lucky, we can keep Seagull Bags busy with our discarded banners. More items of all shapes and sizes are likely to come out of this love connection.

These photos were taken at the Seagull Bag's retail store and workspace. Daniel, the man behind the magic, and I were having a working session to determine certain elements of the bags, including custom embroidery, fabric, and thread color. -- Erica Anderson, Wexner Center Designer
