Pleased to meet you, Agit Reader

Oct 16, 2008

Always nice to see when thoughtful and/or not-bashful music writing emerges from the heap, either from the ashes of burned-out publications, or from out of the ether. One recent entry into the online music fifth estate that definitely stands out is The Agit Reader, and has, over the last few months since its launch, hit a very nice stride of current-day and historical music criticism (as in, "you should know about this precedent, kids"), the kind one scarcely sees, certainly in print, anymore. Stephen Slaybaugh, formerly of the Columbus Alive (now based in NYC), and Kevin Elliott, formerly of Alive and The Other Paper and many other outlets are the muscle behind The Agit Reader. A couple Wexner Center music items dot the current issue, namely an interview with Julian Koster of the Music Tapes (here this Sunday as a part of the Elephant 6 Hoilday Surprise), and also a spot-on review of Jandek from last week. A worthwhile addition to your bookmarks.
