Slideluck Potshow Recap

Aug 16, 2007

Local feats of artistic and culinary achievement were celebrated at the Wexner Center's Slideluck Potshow on Friday, August 3. Over 150 people came and enjoyed the food, the conversation, and most importantly, the work of twenty-four Ohio artists. After a potluck dinner of delicious homemade treats, everyone settled in to Mershon Auditorium, the lights were dimmed, and the slideshows began.

Interspersed with the work of local artists were highlights from previous Slidelucks around the world, including the work of Magnum photographer Alec Soth and Canon, a crowd-pleasing presentation of 700 years of art history in 90 seconds by New York video artist Pierre St. Jacques. But it was our local stars that shone the brightest. Participating artists include Adam Brouillette, Anja Brüggemann, Beth Kagel, Cecilia Johnson, Dina Sherman, Ed Elberfeld, Jaime Hesper, Joanna Hammer, Jonathan Achor, Joomi Chung, Kaveri Raina, Mark Van Fleet and Jen Burton, Michael May, Rob Carroll, Robert Metzger, Ron Anderson, Rory Krupp, Ryan Agnew, Sarah Blyth-Stephens, Scott Brown, Tom Hubbard, and Tom Kelly. These artists work in a variety of media and subject matter, with an equally broad range of experience, but one thing remained clear throughout the evening: there is a wealth of artistic talent and energy to be found right here in Ohio. It was a great evening, and the first, I hope, of many Slidelucks in Columbus. My sincere thanks go to all the artists and the Wexner Center staff who made the event such a success. — Amanda Potter, Wexner Center Educator for Public and University Programs
