Terry Gilliam, 1985

This Saturday three-time Academy Award-winning costume designer James Acheson visits the Wex to discuss his career working on such films as Brazil, The Last Emperor (AA), Dangerous Liaisons (AA), Restoration (AA), Spider-Man, and even this summer’s Superman film Man of Steel. Having worked with such great directors as Bernardo Bertolucci, Terry Gilliam, Sam Raimi, and more, James is sure to have some great stories to share!

To whet your appetite, I posed three questions to James in advance of his visit.

1. Do you have a single favorite when it comes to another film’s costumes?
A: Piero Tosi’s costumes for Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard.

2. Is there a character or actor/actress you haven’t been able to work with (either past or present) for whom you would like to design?
A: Johnny Depp and Tilda Swinton

3. You’ve won three Oscars. Do you have another film for which you would rather have been recognized?
A: No.
