Tricia Rose on the Blues

Fri, Nov 15, 2013

While discussing the blues in a musical sense, author and professor Tricia Rose takes a moment to tackle comedians, non-musical blues artists, as well:

"You have to be able to laugh.... it's just so ridiculous, you run outta options—you'd be crying all the time.... We have to hear that spirit, outside of the expected circumstances, and outside of that typical musical aveunue."

See the unexpected, atypical blues artist Richard Pryor at one of the many video viewing installations inside Blues for Smoke, now through December 29.
