Cinema Revival: A Festival of Film Restoration

Collage of six images from films in our 2023 Cinema Revival series.
Rethink what you know about cinema history with this festival of restored and rediscovered treasures.

Our ninth-annual weekend celebrating the art and practice of film restoration is back! This year we welcome experts including Mark Toscano of the Academy Film Archive, Ina Archer of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and Tim Lanza of the Cohen Film Collection, along with filmmakers Guy Maddin and Greta Snider. While it’s always a pleasure to see a new restoration of a favorite classic on the big screen, we’re also celebrating the dedication of the world’s archivists and restoration experts who work to revive historically overlooked or neglected films and filmmakers. This year, along with Maddin and Snider, we’ll be featuring the work of Menelik Shabazz, Govindan Aravindan, Mireille Dansereau, Luis Buñuel, Timothy Carey, and more!

Purchase a festival pass to take in the full roster of films (at $36, that’s less than $4 a film, less if you are a Wex member) and hear from the experts working to preserve our cinematic treasures—all while enjoying access to an exclusive passholder lounge with complementary snacks and beverages.
