Winter Exhibitions Preview

Sat, Jan 26, 2013 6 PM

Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 26, the evening the Wex celebrates the opening of three new exhibitions with a preview party from 6 to 8 pm and our annual Lambert Family Lecture —a conversation between genre-bending contemporary artists Christian Marclay and Josiah McElheny—at 5 pm. The galleries open at 4 pm so that you can visit the exhibitions before the conversation.

This will be your first opportunity to see Christian Marclay’s 24-hour video work The Clock, an international sensation making its Midwest debut here at the Wex; Towards a Light Club, a solo show by former residency artist Josiah McElheny, who explores the history of modernist utopias through kaleidoscopic projected images, narrative films, and stunning illuminated sculptures; and More American Photographs, which brings together resonant photographs of America during the Great Depression and the Great Recession by artists including Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, William E. Jones, Catherine Opie, and Stephen Shore.

You enjoy complimentary light hors d'oeuvres and beverages from a cash bar, along with music from our guest DJ, from 6 to 8 pm. Guests are also invited to stay after the party for our first 24-hour viewing period for The Clock. (So that you can experience The Clock at any or every point in its full 24-hour duration, its gallery will stay open all night and through the following morning occasionally during the exhibition.)

No matter how long you want to stay, this is an evening that is sure to brighten your spirit and cure any after-holiday doldrums. Please save the date and join us on January 26.
