This spooky stop-motion animation from the Czech Republic is an atmospheric fairytale—four parts Toy Story and one part David Lynch.

The story tells about a group of abandoned toys that stage an ambitious rescue of their kidnapped friend. The diabolically inventive film won the Grand Prize at the 2010 New York International Children’s Film Festival. In Czech with English subtitles. (75 mins., video)

The Zoom: Family Film Festival for 2010 was organized by Chris Stults, Wexner Center assistant curator of film/video, and Jean Pitman, educator for youth programs.

Please Note: Some scenes of danger in this film may frighten younger viewers. The age recommendation listed above is very general. If you would like to discuss the specifics of any film before viewing it with your child, please call Jean Pitman at (614) 292-4614.
