“The best rock documentary since Dig!”—IFC.com

Known for his combative and confrontational persona both onstage and off, Memphis-based garage punk maverick Jay Reatard (Jimmy Lee Lindsey) died tragically at the age of 29 just when his life seemed to be coming together. Combining interviews with friends and family members as well as rare performance footage dating from his teen years, Better Than Something is an unforgettable portrait of an almost-legendary musician done in by personal demons. (89 mins., video)

Musician and music journalist Eric Davidson (New Bomb Turks), who wrote about Reatard in his book We Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988–2001, visits to introduce the screening. Catch up with Davidson in the Store from 5:30 to 7 PM as he DJs and signs books.

Join us for a post-screening party at Ace of Cups (2619 N. High St.) featuring performances from Angry Cougars, Slave Labia, and Nervosas. DJs—ncluding members of New Bomb Turks—will also be spinning garage, soul, r&b, glam, punk, funk, and more. The party starts at 9:30 PM.
