Bill Frisell, A Portrait

(Emma Franz, 2017)

Man with guitar

A regular on our stages, Bill Frisell is one of our era’s defining “musicians’ musicians” and a most idiosyncratic guitar hero. This documentary portrait traces the development of his music and provides rare insight into the mind and personality of a versatile and reclusive artist. Full of live music, the film follows several collaborations from development to fruition, with appearances by Nels Cline, Jason Moran, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Lucinda Williams, Hal Willner, Jim Woodring, and John Zorn. (114 mins., DCP)
