Brimstone & Glory

(Viktor Jakovleski, 2017)

Ohio Premiere

People running from red and green chaos

A simultaneously ecstatic and visceral experience, Brimstone & Glory takes us into the middle of the National Pyrotechnic Festival in Tultepec, Mexico, a town where three-quarters of the citizens work in the fireworks industry. With tiny, state-of-the-art cameras providing miraculous images throughout the film, director Viktor Jakovleski shows us the townspeople creating massive windmills made of fireworks and pyrotechnic papier-maché bulls meant to race through the street, among other wonders. Capturing these decades-long traditions of peril, beauty, and frenzy as a celebration of a way of life and a celebration of celebrations, Brimstone & Glory is cinema as an adrenaline machine! (67 mins., DCP)
