"Unutterably charming"—New York Times Wexner Center audiences might remember Agnes Varda's enchanting 2000 documentary The Gleaners and I. Her most recent, Cinevardaphoto, is a trilogy of short films from different periods in this New Wave director's distinguished career. The first, Ydessa, The Bears and Etc... documents the Teddy Bear Project, a provocative exhibition of thousands of teddy bear photos curated by the daughter of Holocaust survivors. In the second segment, Ulysse from 1982, Varda reconvenes the subjects of an enigmatic photograph taken in Egypt 28 years earlier. For Salut les Cubains, from 1964, Varda animates more than four thousand photographs she took while vacationing in Cuba. (96 mins.)
