"Part personal history remembrance, part time capsule of a place, part true crime thriller, Cropsey is an absorbing and terrifying piece of filmmaking.”—Filmmaker Magazine

Realizing the urban legend of their youth has actually come true, two filmmakers delve into the mystery behind five missing children and the real-life boogeyman linked to their disappearances in Staten Island, New York. As kids, the filmmakers heard campfire stories about an escaped mental patient (sometimes he had a hook for a hand) who would come out at night and snatch children off the street. Those stories took on a new dimension in 1987, when five neighborhood children disappeared. In Cropsey the filmmakers return to Staten Island to delve into the mystery of the missing children and Andre Rand, the man linked to their disappearances. Embarking on a detective journey through the underbelly of their hometown borough, the filmmakers uncover a reality that is more terrifying than any urban legend. (84 mins., video)
