Documentary Filmmaking Masterclass with Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert

Director headshots

Dayton-based filmmakers Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert are, separately and together, living legends in the documentary field. Among their combined accolades are a Primetime Emmy for their landmark documentary A Lion in the House (2006); three Academy Award nominations and an Independent Spirit Award; and a film selected for the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry. We’re proud to kick off the inaugural Unorthodocs. festival with this special peek into their working process and glimpse of their in-progress documentary on the 9 to 5 Movement. A coalition that fought to improve working conditions for women across the country in the early 1970s, the movement also inspired the classic 1980 film 9 to 5, starring Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton, and Lily Tomlin.
