Emma Dante: Sud Costa Occidentale

Filmmaker Clarissa Cappellani was granted access to famed Italian playwright and director Emma Dante and her group of talented actors, Compagnia Sud Costa Occidentale, for seven years (2004–10). The culmination of Cappellani’s work represents a rare, behind-the-scenes treasure that mixes clips from rehearsals and performances, as well as offering a glimpse of the inspiration provided by Dante’s home city of Palermo. Assistant Professor Dana Renga (Ohio State Department of French & Italian) introduces the screening, which will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. (55 mins., video)
