Each year, the faculty of Ohio State’s Film Studies Program selects an exemplary piece of film criticism from entries submitted by undergraduate students. In addition to a monetary award, the winner is invited to select and introduce a film at the Wexner Center. This year’s winner, Meghan Hoffman, selected Akira Kurosawa’s samurai classic Yojimbo (1961).

The film stars Toshiro Mifune as a samurai who comes to a town that is torn between two competing gangsters. The film served as the inspiration for Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars, with Clint Eastwood in the role played by Mifune. (110 mins, 35mm)

Cosponsored with Ohio State’s Film Studies Program.
