William Klein, 1982
While the provocative exhibitionHard Targetsexplores images of masculinity in modern-day sport in our galleries, you can take an eye-opening, hair-raising look at athletics in our Film/Video Theater. We promise you a side of football, cycling, and tennis you’ve never seen before when such cinematic talents as Jørgen Leth and William Klein fix their lenses on John McEnroe, George Best, and other all-time greats.
Many classic films are just as powerful today as when they were first released. We add such films from many genres to our schedule throughout the season. Many are shown on the occasion of their rereleases, in fresh, new or restored prints.
The great photographer/filmmaker William Klein goes behind the scenes at the 1981 French Open, capturing such tennis greats as John McEnroe, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, and Arthur Ashe in candid moments both on and off the court. (130 mins., 16mm)
