Each year, the faculty of Ohio State’s Film Studies Program selects an exemplary piece of film criticism from entries submitted by undergraduate students. In addition to a monetary award, the winner is invited to select and introduce a film at the Wexner Center. This year’s winner, Richard Cotter Edwards, selected Fred Zinnemann’s western classic High Noon. Shot quickly (almost in real time), the film stars Gary Cooper as a small-town sheriff who is forced to face down a revenge-seeking gang of killers on his own. Also starring Grace Kelly with a score by Dimitri Tiomkin. (85 mins., DCP)

Cosponsored with Ohio State’s Film Studies Program.
