Classics

Many classic films are just as powerful today as when they were first released. We add such films from many genres to our schedule throughout the season. Many are shown on the occasion of their rereleases, in fresh, new or restored prints.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Japanese master Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru is back in a new 35mm print with newly translated subtitles.

As powerful as when first released, Ikiru (which translates as "to live") follows a middle-aged government worker who attempts to find meaning in his life when told he has a terminal illness, moving from drunken despair to a quiet resolve to make his final days meaningful. (143 mins.)
