Interkosmos

plus short films by Jim Finn Jim Finn, 2006

Bursting with inventiveness and dry humor, Interkosmos is one of the most visionary independent films in recent memory. At first glance, Jim Finn's debut feature, Interkosmos, appears to be a documentary about the East German space program's failed attempts to establish socialist colonies on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Closer inspection reveals it to be a loving recreation of 1970's fashions and film techniques, interspersed with deadpan musical numbers set to Krautrock-inspired music by Jim Becker of Califone, Colleen Burke of Smog, and Jim White of Dirty Three. (71 mins., video) Tonight's program begins with Finn's short films el guero (3 mins., 2001), wustenspringmaus (3 mins., 2002), el valiente (4 mins., 2004), and la ardilla (2 mins., 2005).

Please note: Ohio State's Homecoming Parade takes place this evening, affecting CABS service and campus traffic between 5:30 and 8 PM. Visit Ohio State's Transportation and Parking web site for details. Patrons are advised to allow extra travel time to tonight's film.

"How charming and fantastic, so full of rare atmospheres"
