"As La Cienaga perspires from the screen, it creates a vision of social malaise that feels paradoxically familiar and new."--Stephen Holden, New York Times

In La Cienaga, from Argentinean director Lucrecia Martel, once-prosperous families struggle to keep their heads above water during the steamy dog days of summer. Set on the high plains of northwestern Argentina, the film focuses on the paralyzing sense of malaise that's infected the country's provincial middle-class, producing amoral children and dissolute parents. As the New York Times noted, the film "offers little in the way of sexual titillation, but if it's decadence you want, this is the real thing." (103 mins.)

Presented as part of Ohio State's Hispanic Awareness Month activities.
