A Letter to True
Bruce Weber, 2004
Wed, Mar 23, 2005 7 PM
"An altogether original film...blending an eclectic array of personal passions with an artist's freewheeling sensibility."—Vanity Fair

Best-known for his glossy fashion photography for Abercrombie & Fitch, Bruce Weber is also a filmmaker of unique distinction, as A Letter to True demonstrates. The "letter" is addressed to one of Weber's gorgeous golden retrievers and testifies to the animal's affection, loyalty, and unconditional love. Weber's highly personal commentary interweaves many of his own obsessions into a stylish, evocative collage. Music of the 1950s and 1960s, home movies of matinee idol Dirk Bogarde, and conversations with Elizabeth Taylor are interspersed with poetic voice-overs by Julie Christie and Marianne Faithfull.
