Looking for Leia

(Annalise Ophelian, 2019)

Introduced by Linda Mizejewski

A group of five people and one child dressed as Princess Leia

Looking for Leia tells the underrepresented stories of women and nonbinary Star Wars fans who found identity, connection, and purpose in their love of a galaxy far, far away

Originally presented as a docuseries on SYFY, Looking for Leia explores the Star Wars franchise’s intergenerational and culturally diverse fanbase and reaches far beyond the legacy of central character Princess Leia (played by Carrie Fisher in 1970s and 80s) to examine how stories of women’s fandom speak to experiences of gender resilience and resistance. (87 mins., digital video)

The screening is introduced by Ohio State College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Linda Mizejewski, coeditor of Our Blessed Rebel Queen: Essays on Carrie Fisher and Princess Leia (2021). Mizejewski joins us earlier in the day for reading from her book.
