Macbeth

Roman Polanski’s Macbeth is a bloody realization of Shakespeare’s tale of a Scottish lord who becomes king through treachery and murder.

Produced in the wake of wife Sharon Tate’s murder by the Manson family, Polanski took many liberties with his source material. For example, his film portrays Lady Macbeth in a highly unconventional manner and developes the character of Ross far beyond anything suggested in the original play. Macbeth met with mixed reviews, with some condemning the graphic violence and others praising Polanski’s visual style. With Jon Finch and Francesca Annis. (140 mins., 35mm)
