"Blackly and tenderly funny with flashes of genuine compassion. The Maid is among the best films I've seen this year. Catalina Saavedra gives an astonishing performance."—Dana Stevens, Slate.com
Winner of two world cinema jury prizes at Sundance and a nominee for best foreign film in the Golden Globes, The Maid is a perfectly calibrated black comedy about Raquel, a housemaid for an upper-class family in Santiago, Chile. Practically a member of the family, Raquel is so devoted to her work that the family decides to assist her by hiring more help. This prompts the now-threatened Raquel to unleash mind games on the family she serves. (95 mins., 35mm)
We initially booked this film for the Wexner Center's Cinema Latino series, and it screened in that series on January 21. We are pleased to now make it available to additional viewers through our partnership with Gateway Film Center.
