You won’t want to miss the lone Columbus screening of one of the most remarkable critical success stories in recent memory: Kenneth Lonergan’s follow-up to You Can Count on Me, his debut and breakthrough film.

Shot in 2005 and edited over an astounding (and legally contested) six-year period, Margaret is an ambitious film with an all-star cast: Anna Paquin, Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo, Matthew Broderick, Allison Janney, Kieran Culkin, and Jeannie Berlin. Although it was barely released in the U.S., critical support and a grassroots movement called “Team Margaret” helped bring it attention and a number of year-end awards. The densely layered film chronicles the emotional turmoil of a self-involved high schooler (Paquin—remember, this was shot seven years ago!) after witnessing a fatal traffic accident. Margaret conveys a sprawling sense of a living world and becomes a wrenching moral crisis set in post-9/11 New York City. (150 mins., 35mm)
