North Country

Based on a real-life incident, North Country stars Charlize Theron as a woman who finds work in a mine after leaving an abusive husband with her two kids in tow. There, deep in Minnesota’s Mesabi Iron Range, she experiences an intolerable environment with daily bouts of sexual harassment, leading her to file a landmark lawsuit against the mine’s owners. Also starring Frances McDormand, Sissy Spacek, and Woody Harrelson. Director Niki Caro is perhaps best known for her acclaimed 2002 feature Whale Rider. (126 mins., 35mm)
