Winner of multiple prizes at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival, The Pearl Button follows Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán’s masterful documentaries The Battle of Chile and Nostalgia for the Light in exploring memory, the historical past, and the theme of disappearance under the brutal regime of dictator Augusto Pinochet. This poignant documentary looks at the indigenous people of Patagonia and the utter decimation of their ancestors during the past period of colonial conquest. (82 mins., DCP)
