Along with The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Bu“uel's films The Milky Way and The Phantom of Liberty form a triptych of radical, humorous, and provocative classics. Prepare for surreal strings of anarchic non sequiturs and daring send-ups of bourgeois decorum. The Phantom of Liberty assembles a string of anarchic non sequiturs based on the surrealistic principles of chance and accident to provide one of Bu“uel's most radical and humorous films. With appearances by Monica Vitti, Jean Rochefort, Michel Piccoli, Jean-Claude Brialy, and Michel Lonsdale. (1974; 104 mins.)
