Piccadilly

E. A. Dupont, 1929

wex grid image fill

Chinese American star Anna May Wong stars in the spectacular Piccadilly, one of the most lavish musical melodramas of the late silent period. Shot in England by German director E. A. Dupont (Variety, Moulin Rouge), Piccadilly is set in the deco nightspot Club Piccadilly, where Wong goes from kitchen dishwashing chores to center stage as sultry dancing sensation.

As Time Out noted upon the film's rerelease, Piccadilly makes it "easy to see what made Wong not only a celebrity in her time but a curiously modern presence." Silent, with a newly composed jazz score. (108 mins.)
