Program Introduced by David Filipi

Fri, Apr 8, 2011 7 PM
Sat, Apr 9, 2011 7 PM

For the eighth year in a row, we're celebrating the opening of a new baseball season with cinematic treasures from the National Baseball Hall of Fame that will entertain baseball fans and cinephiles alike.

Clips include highlights from the 1935 World Series between the Tigers and Cubs, a behind-the-scenes look at the Hall of Fame, a selection of vintage Gillette commercials, and footage featuring such greats as Willie Mays, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, Bob Feller, Hank Aaron and more! David Filipi, the Wexner Center's director of film/video, introduces the clips. (program app. 120 mins., video)

Special thanks to Jim Gates of the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library and Rick Prelinger of Prelinger Associates, Inc.

Baseball fans will also want to check out Juan and John, solo performer Roger Guenveur Smith's fascinating theater piece about San Francisco Giants pitcher Juan Marichal and Los Angeles Dodgers catcher John Roseboro.
