Rib Gets in the Way

Although Steve Reinke’s countless videos have taken diverse forms over his decades-long career, their tone is always recognizably and inimitably his own: acerbic and absurdist, provocative and playful, philosophical and mundane. The laughs often stick in your throat as he deals with the big subjects in life: sex, death, art, nipple piercings, etc. With the 52-minute Rib Gets in the Way, an entry in the 2014 Whitney Biennial, he has created his most epic work yet, pushing and sustaining his irreverent approach to create a simultaneously unsettling and hilarious conflagration. This new work will be preceded by several of Reinke’s acclaimed earlier videos. (approx. 80 mins., video)
