Classics

Many classic films are just as powerful today as when they were first released. We add such films from many genres to our schedule throughout the season. Many are shown on the occasion of their rereleases, in fresh, new or restored prints.

The first popular sound film produced in Mexico and a key film in the country’s history, Santa stars Lupita Tovar as a small-town girl whose life is ruined when she is abandoned by her soldier lover.

Tovar married Czech émigré producer Paul Kohner and begat a Hollywood dynasty that includes their daughter, actress Susan Kohner (Imitation of Life), and their writer-director grandsons Paul and Chris Weitz (About a Boy). In Spanish with English subtitles. (81 mins., 35mm)
