Valentine Day's Classic
New 35mm Print! David Lean, 1955

Many classic films are just as powerful today as when they were first released. We add such films from many genres to our schedule throughout the season. Many are shown on the occasion of their rereleases, in fresh, new or restored prints.

Take your sweetie to Venice for Valentine's Day...with Katherine Hepburn and Rossano Brazzi.
In Summertime Katherine Hepburn plays an American spinster from Akron looking for love while vacationing in Venice. Her prayers appear to be answered as she is swept off her feet by a handsome Italian (Rossano Brazzi). As critic David Denby notes, "Lean captures an emotion that almost every American traveling in Europe has felt at one time or another: the intolerable oppressiveness of beauty when it's experienced in solitude." Venice's seductive charm is exquisitely captured by Jack Hildyard's Technicolor cinematography. (100 mins.)
