Introduces Their Quest

wex grid image fill

This documentary about Columbus's short-lived professional women's basketball team, the Columbus Quest, is introduced by director Suzanne Condray. Players Valerie Still, Katie Smith, and Carol Ann Shudlick, plus Coach Brian Agler and General Manager Robin Agler will also be present.

A 6 pm reception precedes the first screening. A second screening is scheduled for 8:45 pm. Their Quest is an intimate, inside look at how the Columbus Quest, a team of "no-name" players in the little-known American Basketball League, changed forever the history of women in professional basketball. Filled with behind-the-scenes sequences, as well as game footage and interviews, the film follows the Quest as they captured the league's title in 1997 and 1998 and were leading the field when the league unexpectedly filed for bankruptcy in 1998. What emerges is a saga of dreams and disappointments, not just in terms of professional sports, but also in terms of the unique challenges to female athletes struggling to excel.

A professor of communication at Denison University, director Suzanne Condray brings to the story the unparalleled access she had to Quest players during the team's short-lived but still-inspiring history. (60 mins.)
