The Talk of the Town
Wex Drive-In Downtown
George Stevens, 1942
The Wexner Center brings the big screen outside for Wex Drive-In, our annual series of free, festive, open-air film screenings on the Wexner Center Plaza at 15th Avenue and High Street. All Wex Drive-In movies start at dusk (generally around 9 PM), but you’re invited to come at 8 PM to choose your spot. Pack up a few blankets or lawn chairs, and get ready to enjoy beer from Seventh Son Brewing and wine from our cash bar, pizza from Mikey’s Late Night Slice, plus Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (with a free scoop for members) and free Pam’s Market Popcorn.
UPDATE: Tonight's event is most certainly still happening.
Ready for a road trip? Join us as the Wex Drive-In heads to the crossroads of the city (and state) for this special one-off screening on the Ohio Statehouse grounds.
Bring your chairs or blankets to the Statehouse West Plaza (on the High Street side of the building). Catering by Design, the Ohio Statehouse caterer, will be providing a cash bar and fresh grilled items for purchase. Just like at the Wexner Center, the actual screening will begin at dusk.
Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, and Ronald Coleman team up in a surprising romantic comedy about justice. Stevens crafts a satisfying and suspenseful film by blending the playfulness of 1930s’ screwball comedies into the socially conscious debates of 1940s’ dramas. Coleman, as a law professor in line for the Supreme Court, and Grant, as an accused arsonist, spar politically and romantically, as both fall for Arthur’s small-town teacher. (118 mins., 35mm)
In the event of rain, this screening will be canceled.
Wexner Center members receive a commemorative Wex Drive-In mug and discounted drinks at every film. Become a member through the Wex Drive-In and receive a Wexner Center Film/Video t-shirt and two additional free film passes (a $34 value). Make It an Evening...
Come downtown (or stay busy with culture downtown) even before the Drive-In party starts: Visit the OSU Urban Arts Space for the Art Builds Bridges event from 4 to 8 PM. You can join a discussion about art and ecology, tour the Urban Art Space galleries, participate in a tasting of organic wines, or check out the building's "green" rooftop garden. Everything is free except the wine tasting. Find out more at the OSU Urban Art Space web site.
