Tue, Mar 1, 2011Thu, Mar 31, 2011
Repeats every day until Thu Mar 31 2011 .

This month’s program is being shown in association with Jennifer Reeder’s March 17 visit to screen her short film, Seven Songs About Thunder (2010).

By turns awkward and poignant, Tears Cannot Restore Her continues Reeder’s explorations of human relationships, intimacy, and alienation. A failed relationship drives a female sign language interpreter to have an emotional outburst while translating in front of a classroom. The professor’s lecture on electromagnetism is “translated” into an emotional signed soliloquy on relationships and her personal trauma. (8 mins., HD video)

A former Wexner Center Residency Award recipient, Ohio State alumna, and Columbus native, Reeder is now based in Chicago where she is an associate professor of moving image and chair of graduate studies at the School of Art and Design, University of Illinois, Chicago. Tears Cannot Restore Her premiered in a solo exhibition at Andrew Rafacz Gallery, Chicago in 2009.
