Francois Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (1959) and Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless (1960) ushered in the French New Wave.

The New Wave was the seemingly inevitable result of a fast-friendship from opposite sides of the tracks but cemented by time spent on the revered Cahiers du Cinema. Revealing period footage of the pair blended with clips from their respective films provides a wonderful window on this moment in film history and follows it through to the great directors' bitter falling out in 1973.
