Special Commemorative Screening

This moving collection of short films explores the significance of September 11 through a variety of creative, personal, and cultural lenses. Produced by Jay Rosenblatt and Caveh Zahedi

Just one week after the terrorist attacks, San Francisco-based artists Jay Rosenblatt and Caveh Zahedi asked 150 independent filmmakers to create a short piece responding to the events of September 11, 2001. Thirteen of these works are included in Underground Zero I (76 mins.) and eighteen others in Underground Zero II (78 mins.).

Extremely diverse in tone and approach, the individual pieces offer subjective responses to a tragic and complex moment in our national history, often providing insights far different from what we've seen in the mass media. Among the contributing filmmakers are the two producers themselves, plus Robert Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, Valerie Soe, Ira Sachs, Norman Cowie, Bushra Azzouz, and Paul Harrill.
