As part of the Wexner Center’s 25th anniversary, The Box is dedicating the entire year of programming to work produced in the Film/Video Studio. Screenings in this free exhibition space for video, located just across from the Wexner Center Store, run continuously seven days a week, the same hours as our ticket office (Mon–Wed: 9 AM–6 PM; Thu–Fri: 9 AM–8 PM; Sat: 10 AM–8 PM; Sun: 11 AM–6 PM).
Via Brasil is the Wexner Center’s multidisciplinary initiative focusing on contemporary art and culture in Brazil made possible by a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
An imaginary documentary that focuses on what is unknown and unseen, Vera Cruz is based on a letter from one of Brazil’s first colonists to the Portuguese king, offering one of the earliest written descriptions of this new “eden.” Against the emptied-out imagery of white leader and a soundtrack of waves and wind, subtitles present the original letter as screenplay-like dialogue, raising questions about what is left out of written histories. Artist Rosângela Rennó is represented in the Cruzamentos exhibition with several works from her The Last Photo series. (44 mins., video)
