This moving documentary about artist Vik Muniz, who creates photographic images of people using found materials from the places where they live and work, has just been announced as one of the five Academy Award nominees for Best Documentary.

The film, which was so well received in its two Wexner Center screenings that we're bringing it back at Gateway, previously won the World Cinema Audience Award for Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival and is the only one of the Oscar documentary nominees that has not yet played in Columbus. Its story chronicles Muniz's journey from his home in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and Jardim Gramacho, the world’s largest landfill. There, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, he collaborates with a band of self-designated pickers of recyclable materials and photographs these inspiring characters as they recycle their lives and society’s garbage.
