Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman

Introduced by the director on Friday only

(Eric Bricker, 2008)

Fri, Feb 26–Sat, Feb 27, 2010  |  7:00PM
Film/Video Theater

Julius Shulman’s distinctive photographs brought the beauty of modernist architecture in Southern California to the American mainstream. Filmmaker Eric Bricker brings Shulman’s lasting impact to you—with the help of Frank Gehry, Ed Ruscha, and Dustin Hoffman.

Shulman, a celebrated architectural photographer, built his career on breathtaking images of modern architecture (including works of Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, and Frank Gehry) to the American mainstream. As much an appreciation of the architecture as of the charming, whip-smart man who photographed it, Visual Acoustics is punctuated with remarkable commentaries by Tom Ford, Frank Gehry, Ed Ruscha, cinematographer Dante Spinotti, and Schulman himself. Narrated by Dustin Hoffman. (84 mins., video)
