Would you like to get involved and see behind-the-scenes at the Wexner Center? Consider becoming a volunteer. Volunteers come from all walks of life and range from students to retirees. All you need is your interest and enthusiasm!
Here are four ways to volunteer at the Wexner Center. See which one best fits your interests and schedule.
Docents are active members of the Wexner Center's education department who lead interactive tours of gallery exhibitions and the center's unique architectural spaces. Docents work with a variety of people–university classes, school groups, teens, and art lovers from near and far–to explore and appreciate the connections between contemporary art and their own lives.
No experience or previous training is required, but all docents must have an active commitment to exploring contemporary art and promoting its ability to engage, provoke, and illuminate. Those interested in becoming docents prepare by participating in the Docent-in-Training program, which begins each fall. Applications to participate in the 2013 program are due July 28 and the training program begins in August. To apply, send a letter of intent along with your resume to firstname.lastname@example.org or send by post to the Wexner Center (1871 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43210) c/o Docent Program.

We see a little bit of everything and everybody. When you volunteer to assist our patrons at events, you’ll get to see it all too: getting the first look at new exhibitions during our gallery openings, being entertained and inspired by a wide array of programs, learning from educational lectures, viewing rare movie classics as well as brand new films often introduced by filmmakers, and, of course, enjoying dance, theater, and music from all over the U.S. and abroad at our performing arts shows. Ushering with us lets you keep your finger on the pulse of the contemporary art world for free.
No experience or previous training is required, but ushers complete an introductory training and orientation session.

The Wexner Center offers academic internships for undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, and on occasion, high school students. Internships at the Wexner Center are available based on individual departments’ needs. Interns gain experience and knowledge in the workings of a contemporary arts center and work under the guidance of our professional staff. Academic internships are not paid, but students are welcome to seek academic credit for their work in coordination with their internship supervisor and their academic advisor. The Wexner Center is committed to building an inclusive work environment that welcomes and values diversity. We strive to ensure that our work environment is as stimulating, inspiring, and diverse as the many artists, programs, and art forms we present. Students from all academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply for internships.

Education Program Volunteers
Help bring out the artist in young people, families, and adults. College students, high school students, and community members (ages 16 and older) are invited to assist with varied arts-related education programs throughout the year. Events include weekend arts workshops, films, and performances for young people and families, as well as summer workshops for children and teens. Volunteers welcome guests, work with hands-on projects, and participate in set-up before and tear-down after events. This is a very flexible volunteer opportunity for anyone interested in arts education or community outreach. Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis, so apply anytime. Background checks will be required.
