The training program for new docents begins in September. Undergraduate and graduate students attending Ohio State or other area colleges and universities in any field can earn academic credit for their docent training through the Student Docent program. Community Docents participate in the same training program but need not be currently enrolled students.
The Wexner Center strives to build a diverse team of docents to work with our diverse audiences and the varied art we present from all around the world. Contemporary art challenges viewers to face and explore potentially provocative topics. Docents lead meaningful gallery discussions and push visitors to experience art from a range of perspectives. They guide the public in exploring issues of identity, race, sexuality, politics, and more. An academic background in the arts isn’t necessary—but love for the arts and for people is.
