Ohio State Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day

Thu, May 26, 2011

Come to the Wexner Center on Thursday, May 26, for free gallery admission all day and other special perks for our closest campus colleagues. Discounts last all day long. Be sure to bring your Buck-ID.

Save 10% in the Wexner Center Store. Choose books, cards, DVDs, jewelry, housewares, and kids' stuff for gifts or for yourself. You can even stock up for future occasions. Receive an extra 10% off (a total of 20%) if you are already a member. (Apple products are excluded from additional discounts, but our standard educational pricing is as good as you'll find anywhere.)

Stop by Abbondanza, the Wexner Center’s café, for breakfast, lunch, or a snack. You can sip a free cup of coffee with any purchase. Abbondanza is open from 8 AM to 4 PM.

This evening, take in a triple bill of Charlie Chaplin films at 7 PM with discounted, member-priced tickets (just $5). The screening brings together two comedies of mistaken identity followed by one of Chaplin's most unusual films, the Hitchcock-like Monsieur Verdoux. Film fans may also enjoy the annual Film Studies Lecture, in which Sean O'Sullivan, from Ohio State’s Department of English and Film Studies program, looks at British cinema. It’s at 4 PM and admission is free.

In the galleries, you can explore Pipilotti Rist’s immersive installation The Tender Room, which the Dispatch calls “consistently inviting.” Also on view are Double Sexus: Hans Bellmer and Louise Bourgeois, the first exhibition to explore parallels in the work of these influential and historically significant artists, and Human Behavior: Nathalie Djurberg with Music by Hans Berg, which features videos and sculptures by an artist who uses claymation to critique abuses of power and examine the entire spectrum of human behavior. (Please note that Double Sexus and Human Behavior are recommended for mature audiences.)

Jean Dubuffet, Vaches au pre (Cows in a meadow), 1954
